Celebrate the Joy of Giving to Others

Scripture clearly tells us the motivating force to move people into mission. Jesus Christ is sent by God to do mission into the world. From Luke we can read, 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” In John, when speaking of His own mission upon the earth, Jesus prepares His disciples to carry on in His absence when proclaims (John 14:12) “Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.” By sending His disciples, Jesus sends us all out into the world to do His work, (Matt. 28:19-20) “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” He completes this command with assurance of support, “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
